In the January-July period of this year, Turkey's steel exports decreased by 6.8 percent year on year to 10.86 million mt, while the value of these exports totaled $9.06 billion, down 4.1 percent, both on year-on-year basis, according to the data released by the Turkish Steel Exporters' Association (CIB). In the given period, Turkey's steel pipe exports totaled 1.12 million mt, up 4.5 percent and billet exports decreased by 65.9 percent to 435,000 mt, while hot rolled flat steel exports decreased by 0.9 percent to 997,000 mt, coated flat steel exports decreased by 27 percent to 290,000 mt, rebar exports decreased by 6.1 percent to 4.57 million mt, wire rod exports increased by 5.3 percent to 615,000 mt and steel profile exports increased by 12.8 percent to 1.09 million mt, all on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the first seven months of the current year, Turkey's slab exports surged to 25,000 mt, while no slab exports were recorded from the country in the same period of 2013.
In July alone, Turkey's steel exports decreased by three percent year on year to 1.41 million mt, while the value of these exports totaled $1.19 billion, down 3.8 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In the given month, Turkey's billet exports increased by 63 percent to 66,000 mt, flat steel exports increased by 23.4 percent to 114,000 mt, wire rod exports moved up by 7.5 percent to 79,000 mt, steel pipe exports rose by eight percent to 162,000 mt, rebar exports decreased by 9.4 percent to 602,000 mt, steel profile exports decreased by six percent to 129,000 mt, all on year-on-year basis.
In the given month, the steel industry ranked third among Turkey's top exporting industrial sectors, with a 9.8 percent share in the country's total exports.
