In the January-July period this year, Turkey's steel imports from China increased by 193.9 percent to 1.05 million mt, with a value of $627 million, up 52.1 percent, both compared to the same period of 2014, according to the data released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
According to the TCUD, in the first seven months of this year Turkey's overall billet imports from China totaled more than 152,000 mt, while there were hardly any slab imports from China in the given period. As regards Turkey's other steel imports from China in the January-July period this year, Turkey's flat steel imports reached 563,000 mt, up 322.9 percent, long steel imports amounted to 116,000 mt, up 120.8 percent and steel pipe imports increased by 61.6 percent to 149,000 mt, year on year.
In July alone, Turkey's steel imports from China reached 125,000 mt, up 193 percent year on year. In the month in question, flat steel imports from China increased by 154.8 percent to 37,000 mt, long steel imports totaled 9,000 mt, up 10.7 percent, and pipe imports from China reached 33,000 mt, up 506 percent, all year on year.
