Ukraine issues Q1 2009 export data

According to the data for the first quarter of 2009, Ukrainian exports of steel pipes decreased by 28.5 percent to 309,430 mt, its semi-finished steel product exports dropped by 10.3 percent to 2.94 million mt, its exports of flat rolled steel decreased by 38.1 percent to 1.424 million mt, and its exports of long steel dropped by 42.6 percent to 1.035 million mt, all compared to the corresponding period of 2008.

On the other hand, in Q1 2009 Ukraine decreased its ferroalloy exports by 65.3 percent and its scrap exports by 24.1 percent year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 88,860 and 89,710.

However, according to the World Steel Association, Ukraine has managed to keep its position among the top ten steel exporting countries. In Q1 2009, Ukraine registered a 33 percent decline year on year in its finished steel product output to 6.206 million mt and a 38 percent decrease in its crude steel output to 6.820 million mt.
