According to the data issued by steel trading enterprise Ukrainian Mining and Metallurgical Company (UGMK), in January-November this year Ukraine consumed 6.3 million mt of rolled steel products, up 38.3 percent year on year.
In November, Ukraine's consumption of rolled steel products decreased by 8.1 percent compared to October and rose by 42.7 percent compared to November last year.
In January-November this year, the share of imports in the domestic rolled steel product market amounted to 20.7 percent, up from 13.7 percent in the same period last year.
The biggest increases were seen in the consumption of angles and galvanized sheet, rising by 36.3 percent and 35.7 percent year on year respectively in January-November 2010.
Meanwhile, in November, rebar consumption increased by 49.6 percent year on year but dropped by 14.2 percent month on month. From all rebar deliveries, 91 percent were shipped to metal trade companies.
During the first 11 months of this year, UGMK noted the increase of the share of ‘other rolled steel products' in Ukraine's total rolled steel product consumption to 31.3 percent from 21.5 percent in the same period last year, mainly due to the rise of 3.9 percentage points in the share of round billet, the increase of 1.3 percentage points in the share of round bar, and the rise of 0.8 and 0.9 percentage points in the share of square billets and slabs respectively.
In January-November this year, Ukraine's biggest consumers of rolled steel were the metal trade sector, shipments to which amounted to 29 percent of total rolled steel product deliveries, followed by the pipe sector, with its share of overall consumption in the domestic rolled steel market amounting to 25.3 percent, and machine building, with a share of 16.3 percent.
