US iron and steel scrap exports down 20.8 percent in January

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 989,159 mt in January 2019, a 20.8 percent decrease month-on-month and an 11.9 percent decrease year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in January with 155,541 mt, down 24.9 percent month-on-month and down 49.5 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in January 2019 include: Canada, with 137,117 mt; Taiwan, with 103,972 mt; Mexico, with 103,668 mt; and Korea, with 100,392 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $317.7 million in January 2019, a 25.6 percent decrease compared to December and a 14.8 percent decrease compared to January 2018.
