US iron and steel scrap exports plunge in June

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,033,796 mt in June, which represents a 21.5 percent decrease month-on-month and a 12.1 percent decrease year-on-year.

Mexico was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in June, with 222,579 mt, which is up 46.6 percent month-on-month and up 156.6 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in June include: Kuwait, with 133,122 mt; Taiwan, with 90,643 mt; Peru, with 89,277 mt; and Turkey, with 88,028 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $332.8 million in June, a 14.1 percent decrease compared to May and an 18.2 percent decrease compared to June 2015.
