Inquiry activity into US import rebar has increased marginally, as sources report new offers from the Middle East, which isn’t a usual supplier of US import rebar. With Algeria’s unreliable—for now—presence in the US import rebar market, sources say these new offers might “fill the hole” but only temporarily, considering freight is higher compared to bookings from Algeria and Egypt.

In the meantime, offers from Egypt are lower this week, at $37.00-$38.00 cwt. ($816-$838/mt or $740-$760/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, down from $38.50-$39.50 cwt. ($849-$871/mt or $770-$790/nt) last week. Offers from Mexico have also softened, now at $38.00-$39.00 cwt. ($838-$860/mt or $760-$780/nt) DDP Houston, compared to previous levels of $39.00-$40.00 cwt. ($860-$882/mt or $780-$800/nt) DDP Houston from Mexico.
