US may increase custom duty on Chinese semiconductor

Thursday, 26 December 2024 11:54:50 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

Katherine Tai, the US Trade Representative, has announced that it has initiated a trade investigation into semiconductors from China. As a result of the investigation, which will be conducted under Section 301, the US’ custom duty on the given products from China may increase.

According to the statement, China seeks to dominate the semiconductor industry and undertakes extensive anticompetitive and non-market means. China’s acts, policies, and practices appear to have and to threaten detrimental impacts on the US and other economies.

In May this year, Joe Biden, whose presidency is about to end, decided to impose 50 percent tariff on Chinese semiconductors as of 2025, as SteelOrbis previously reported.
