Venezuela’s state-run steelmaker Sidor produced 14,000 mt of rebar and 25,000 mt of wire rod in the May-September period, the company said this week, while commenting on its recently launched plan to recover steel output volumes.

Comprised of six phases, the company said it started stage two, in which it expects to reach a 100,000 mt/month crude steel capacity. It also resumed operations at its furnaces No. 5 and 6 of its steel slab area.

Sidor recently unveiled a plan for the 2016-2018 period in which it expects to produce 4 million mt of crude steel by 2018. Sidor said it expects to reach stage 3 by Q3.

The third stage includes the restart of a melting furnace and three DRI units, which requires a monthly consumption of 569 megawatts, 110 million cubic feet of natural gas and 300,000 of iron.

Stages four and five include the reactivation of pellet line A as well as repair works at the company’s Midrex plants. As for the last phase of its plan, Sidor expects to reach full capacity at its six furnaces.
