Venezuela’s state-run steelmaker Sidor has resumed direct reduced iron (DRI) output at Midrex 1, one of its DRI units, the company announced this week.

According to Jose Diaz, reduction manager at the unit, the restart of Midrex 1 follows maintenance and repair works on different parts and devices of the DRI unit.

“During the halt, we took advantage to repair several equipment, such as the reformer unit, the unit responsible for producing the reducing gas, and reformed gas pipelines,” the executive mentioned.

The restart of Sidor’s Midrex 1 is expected to help the steelmaker resume activities and meet its production goals for 2016.
