The Ukrainian steelmaker Zaporizhstal plans in December of the current year to start cold testings of its new pulverized coal injection (PCI) plant. Total investment in the construction of the plant is set to amount to about UAH 100 million (approx. $12.5 million) up to the end of 2009.

"Up to the end of the year it is planned to invest about UAH 100 million, and in December to start the cold testing of the PCI plant," says the company's statement. In the first half of 2009 Zaporizhstal invested UAH 57 million (approx. $7.13 million) in the construction of the plant.

The PCI plant is to be launched firstly at Zaporizhstal's blast furnace No. 2, which is located closer to the plant and can more easily be changed to the new technology.

As SteelOrbis previous reported, in February 2009 Zaporizhstal stated that it intended to complete the construction of its PCI plant by autumn of the current year.
