Stainless steel prices move down in line with nickel prices

Friday, 14 June 2013 17:48:39 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul
Stainless steel demand in the global market has remained weak, while nickel prices have continued to slide down so far during June. As of June 13, nickel prices at the London Metal Exchange (LME) closed at $14,030/mt for cash settlements.

Chinese steelmakers, who usually announce price revisions in the middle of months, have returned to the market following a holiday in their country and are expected to decrease their stainless steel list prices for domestic and external markets.

Import stainless steel prices in Turkey, on the other hand, have softened by approximately $50/mt as compared to early this month. Far Eastern origin offers to Turkey, particularly from China and Taiwan, for 304/2B stainless steel cold rolled coil (CRC) of 2.0 mm thickness stand at $2,450-2,550/mt CFR. Meanwhile, sources state that there are offers above these levels but they are considered to be on the high side by Turkish buyers.
