International rebar prices are still trending up, and sources tell SteelOrbis that along with higher offer prices for import rebar, there is a dampening demand as buyers turn to the domestic market for material.

US import rebar prices are more tied to the global market and positive scrap trends than to US-based demand for rebar, but sources say they don’t expect imports to stay quiet for long, predicting increased activity after New Year’s.

For now, US import rebar offers from Egypt are up $0.50 cwt. ($11/mt or $10/nt) in the last week, now ranging from $39.50-$40.50 cwt. ($871-$893/mt or $790-$810/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, while offers from Algeria are also up $0.50 cwt. into the range of $38.50-$39.50 cwt. ($849-$871/mt or $770-$790/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports. Offers from Mexico, meanwhile, are now at $39.50-$40.50 cwt. ($871-$893/mt or $780-$800/nt) DDP Houston, also up $0.50 cwt. week-on-week.
