The leading Japanese EAF steel producer Tokyo Steel has increased its scrap purchase prices only for its Utsunomiya plant, by JPY 1,000/mt as compared to the levels shared on April 19. This announcement by the producer may be considered to be on the cautious side, since the only change in price on April 19 was for the same plant. Meanwhile, the Kanto tender closed with an increase today, May 9, with the price remaining at JPY 52,590/mt ($337/mt) FAS.
Despite the announcement, Tokyo Steel’s general range for H2 grade scrap has remained at JPY 50,500-51,500/mt ($330-337/mt) depending on the mill. Meanwhile, the dollar equivalent has moved up by $3/mt since April 19.
Shindachi scrap prices of Tokyo Steel have moved down from JPY 51,500-52,500/mt ($334-340/mt) to JPY 51,500-53,000/mt ($337-339/mt). All the prices in question are delivered and effective as of May 10.
