Brazil’s auto production declined 23.7 percent in March, year-on-year, and 27.8 percent in Q1 year-on-year, to 195,279 and 482,290 units, respectively, according to data released this week by the nation’s automotive industry association, Anfavea.
Despite the year-on-year declines, March’s figures show a 42.6 percent increase in auto production on a month-on-month basis, as output rose from 136,905 units in February.
Brazil domestic sales of autos in March declined 23.6 percent, year-on-year, to 179,219 units, but rose 22.1 percent, month-on-month, from 146,809 units in February. In Q1, Brazil’s domestic sales of cars totaled 481,311 units, 28.6 percent down, year-on-year.
Brazil exported 38,559 units in March, 19.8 percent up, year-on-year, and 5.7 percent up, month-on-month. In Q1, Brazilian auto exports reached 98,877 units, 24 percent up, year-on-year.
