Brazilian crude steel production increases in June

The Brazilian production of crude steel has reached 2.874 million mt in June 2024, 11.8 percent more than in June 2023, according to the Brazilian steel institute IABr.

Under the same comparative basis, the production of rolled products increased by 13.9 percent to 1.848 million mt, with the production of flat products increasing by 13.9 percent to 1.057 million mt and the production of long products increasing by 7.9 percent to 791,000 mt.

Similarly, domestic sales of steel products increased by 11.5 percent to 1.828 million mt and the apparent consumption of steel products increased by 10.3 percent to 2.2 million mt, while exports declined by 45.5 percent to 647,000 mt and imports increased by 12.1 percent to 428,000 mt.

Considering the first six months of 2024, on a yearly basis the crude steel production increased by 2.4 percent to 16.433 million mt, domestic sales increased by 3.5 percent to 10.100 million mt, exports declined by 25.3 percent to 4.700 million mt, imports increased by 23.9 percent to 2.700 million mt and the apparent consumption of steel products increased by 6.0 percent to 12.400 million mt.
