The Brazilian exports of pig iron have reached 270,100 mt in August against 353,800 mt in July, according to customs.

The destinations in August were the US (209,000 mt at $447/mt), the Netherlands (31,200 mt at $470/mt), Mexico (24,000 mt at $440/mt), South America (3,200 mt at $429/mt), and Asia (2,700 mt $530/mt), all FOB conditions.

The shipments were from independent producers in the southeastern states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo (239,400 mt at $448/mt), from the central-western state of Mato Grosso do Sul (25,200 mt at $465/mt), and from the northern state of Pará (5,500 mt at $450/mt).

Such prices were probably negotiated in June, with indications of the BPI grade price in the $440-480/mt range, and the foundry grade product above $490/mt, FOB conditions.
