Brazil’s auto output, sales down in January

Brazil’s car sales and output declined in January, according to the latest figures released by the nation’s automotive industry association, Anfavea.

According to Anfavea, sales in the first month of the year diminished 38.8 percent, year-on-year, and 31.8 percent, month-on-month, to 155,283 units.

Cars output in January declined 29.3 percent, year-on-year, but rose 1.6 percent, month-on-month to 145,064 units, Anfavea said. Exports in the same period totaled improved 37.1 percent, year-on-year, to 22,347 units. In the month-on-month comparison, exports of autos declined 51.7 percent.

Anfavea noted that Q1 will continue being challenging for the nation’s automotive industry.
