China’s iron ore output up eight percent in January-April

Friday, 19 May 2023 09:50:58 (GMT+3)   |   Shanghai

In the January-April period this year, China’s iron ore production amounted to 314.382 million mt, increasing by eight percent year on year, according to China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

In April alone, China’s iron ore production totaled 75.096 million mt, rising by 0.7 percent year on year, while decreasing by 13.1 percent month on month.

Import iron ore prices had indicated an overall downtrend in April amid the decreasing production output on steelmakers’ side and the slack demand for iron ore. Following the production reduction of steel, steelmakers started to resume their production activities since mid-May, which bolstered iron ore prices to some extent.
