In the January-November period this year, China’s exports of steel bars totaled 11.99 million mt, up 19.1 percent year on year, while wire rod exports amounted to 2.39 million mt, up 8.0 percent year on year, according to the Chinese customs authorities. At the same time, China’s export volumes of angles/channels came to 5.33 million mt in the given period, increasing by 19.7 percent year on year.
In November alone, China’s exports of steel bars amounted to 1.32 million mt, up 44.9 percent year on year and rising by 3.94 percent month on month, while exports of wire rod and angles/channels amounted to 210,000 mt and 510,000 mt, up 1.1 percent and up 39.7 percent year on year, and decreasing by 4.55 percent and 19.05 percent month on month, respectively.
Following monthly steel exports volume exceeding 10 million mt in September and October, China’s monthly steel exports reached 9.28 million mt, down 17.0 percent month on month, signaling some countries’ curbing measures took effect, which has exerted a negative impact on China’s finished steel exports. It is expected that China’s steel export volume in December might slow down in the traditional offseason.
