In the January-July period this year, China’s exports of steel bars, wire rod and angles/channels totaled 6.41 million mt, 1.42 million mt and 2.87 million mt, up 50 percent, 18.1 percent and 45.2 percent year on year, respectively, according to the Chinese customs authorities.

In July alone, China’s export of steel bars amounted to 0.89 million mt, up 16.8 percent year on year, down 6.32 percent month on month, while its exports of wire rod and angles/channels amounted to 230,000 mt and 440,000 mt, up 16.3 percent and 38.7 percent year on year, respectively, while increasing by 9.52 percent and 7.32 percent month on month.

Demand for steel bar in the export markets was slacker in July than in the previous month, negatively affecting exports in July.
