The Industry and Information Technology Commission of China's Anhui Province has issued the capacity replacement details relating to two 140 mt electric furnaces due to be built by Anhui Province-based Chinese steelmaker Changjiang Iron and Steel Co., (Changjiang Steel) a subsidiary of Ma’anshan Iron and Steel Co. (Masteel), and the planned elimination of one blast furnace of 450 cubic meters and two 40 mt converters. Accordingly, the two new furnaces will have a combined annual steelmaking capacity of 1.10 million mt, with construction starting in March 2019 and due to be completed in March 2021. These electric furnaces will replace a blast furnace owned by Changjiang Steel which has an annual iron-making capacity of 0.55 million mt, with its demolition starting in December 2019 and due to be completed in March 2021, as well as two converters also owned by Changjiang Steel which have a combined annual steelmaking capacity of 1.20 million mt, with demolition both starting and due to be completed in March 2021.
