Abu Dhabi, UAE-based steelmaker Emirates Steel Industries (ESI) is venturing into Qatar as part of its strategic plans to expand its presence in the regional markets, Qatar's Gulf Times has said.
According to the report citing a company spokesman, ESI has already concluded sales contracts for the supply of rebar to Qatar and expects to deliver more products in the coming weeks. In addition, the steelmaker is reported to be looking at the Middle East, North Africa, East Africa, Europe, the Indian sub-continent and other Asian markets for exports.
As part of its expansion, the company will also produce hot rolled steel sections, such as beams, columns, channels, angles and sheet piles, from 2012 on.
Emirates Steel currently sells around 80 percent of its products in its local market with the remainder being exported to Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, India, China, Pakistan and most recently Qatar.
The steelmaker plans to export more than 50 percent of its wire rod and coil products in 2011, and up to 15 percent of its rebar products.
Formerly known as Emirates Iron & Steel Factory, ESI is a wholly-owned government factory strategically located at the recently developed Industrial City of Abu Dhabi.
