Over the past month, Bulgarian domestic longs prices have mostly risen by BGN 10-30/mt (€5-15/mt), while only falling by BGN 30/mt (€15/mt) in the beam prices. Most Bulgarian buyers are in holiday mood ahead of Christmas and New Year. In addition, the new steel quota period will also begin by January 1, 2024. “Demand for rebar and wire rod is relatively better this month, while merchant bar and beam demand was slow in November and livelier in December. In addition stock level is moderate,” one source commented. In the import segment, although ex-Turkey longs export prices fell this week, most buyers are postponing their purchases until after the New Year holidays.
In the import segment, ex-Turkey rebar and wire rod offers are available at $600-610/mt FOB and $620-630/mt FOB versus $575-580/mt FOB and $590-600/mt FOB over the past month. The average freight rate is around $15/mt (€14/mt) from Turkey to Bulgaria. In addition, ex-Turkey merchant bar prices are standing at $696-729/mt (€634-664/mt) CFR Bulgaria, versus $655-675/mt (€603-621/mt) CFR Bulgaria last month. The higher end seems difficult to achieve so far.
In the beam segment, ex-Turkey beam prices are at $729-894/mt (€694-814/mt) Bulgaria, versus $795/mt (€731/mt) CFR Bulgaria last month, again higher end seems a bit challenging so far and ex-Spain material is available at €750/mt CIF, up by €10/mt over the past month. Slightly higher offers are also available from a few suppliers. Ex-Poland beam prices are standing at €720-735/mt CPT, versus €740/mt CPT earlier. In addition, ex-Italy and ex-Romania beam offers are available at €700-750/mt and €750/mt CPT Bulgaria, SteelOrbis has heard.
