In August this year, new car registrations totaled 1.1 million units in the European Union (EU), increasing 31.2 percent year on year, according to the latest figures issued by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA).
In July 2018, new passenger cars registrations in the EU increased to almost 1.3 million units, rising by 10.5% year on year basis. In July, among the five big markets, Spain (+19.3%), France (+18.9%), Germany (+12.3%), Italy (+4.7%) and the United Kingdom (+1.2%) posted increases, all year on year.
Meanwhile, in the first eight months of this year new passenger car registrations in the EU increased to 10.8 million units, up 6.1 percent year on year. In this period, demand for cars increased by 14.6 percent in Spain, by 8.9 percent in France and by 6.4 percent in Germany, although sales declined by 4.2 percent in the UK and remained almost stable in Italy (‐0.1%).
