Annual inflation in the euro area was 1.9 percent in April this year, up from 1.5 percent in March, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In April last year, the annual inflation rate was -0.2 percent.
Meanwhile, in the European Union (EU-28) annual inflation was 2.0 percent in April, up from 1.6 percent in March. In April 2016, the annual inflation rate in the EU-28 was -0.2 percent.
The lowest inflation rates were observed in Romania (0.6%), Ireland (0.7%) and Slovakia (0.8%), whereas the highest annual rates were recorded in Estonia (3.6%), Lithuania (3.5%) and Latvia (3.3%). Compared with March, annual inflation fell in six member states, remained stable in three states and rose in nineteen.
