According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in April this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) remained stable compared to March and rose by 2.7 percent compared to the same month of 2016. In March, production narrowed 0.5 percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in April increased by 0.3 percent month on month and rose by 3.2 percent year on year. In March, production had fallen by 1.1 percent compared to February, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in April increased by 0.2 percent month on month and was up 3.5 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by one percent from March and was up by one percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction increased by 0.7 percent month on month and was up 3.3 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by 1.5 percent month on month and rose by 2.5 percent year on year.
As compared to April last year, construction output in April this year increased by 27.8 percent in Slovenia, by 22 percent in Hungary and by 19.8 percent in Sweden, while a decrease of 18.4 percent was registered in Romania, a decline of 4.6 percent was registered in Italy and a fall of 3.4 percent was seen in the United Kingdom.
As compared to March, construction output in April this year increased by 3.8 percent in Sweden, by 3.5 percent in France and by 1.6 percent in the Czech Republic, while construction output decreased by 7.7 percent in Romania, by 4.1 percent in Italy, and by 2.6 percent in Hungary.
