The Russian steelmaker and iron ore producer Evraz Group (Evraz) has released its production results for the second quarter of 2009.
Accordingly, in the second quarter Evraz registered a 41.8 percent decrease in coke production, a 30.5 percent decline in pig iron production, a 28.3 percent decrease in crude steel output and a 23.9 percent decline in its rolled steel production, all compared to Q2 2008. The respective figures in metric tons were 379,000, 2.523 million, 3.403 million and 3.272 million. During the period in question, Evraz's output of railway products went down by 34.7 percent to 406,000 metric tons, its flat rolled products output dropped by 44.4 percent to 408,000 metric tons, its construction products output decreased by 40.2 percent to 959,000 metric tons, its semi-finished products output increased by 15.6 percent to 1.148 million metric tons, while its tubular products output went up by 11.6 percent to 153,000 mt, all compared to the second quarter of 2008.
In addition, in the second quarter of this year Evraz's mining division saw an 82.5 percent increase in iron ore concentrate production to 1.582 million metric tons, but a 55.5 percent decrease in sinter production to 844,000 metric tons and a 5.8 percent drop in pellet production to 1.433 million metric tons, all compared to Q2 2008. Furthermore, Evraz mined 2.744 million metric tons of coking coal in Q2 2009, registering an increase of 15.9 percent compared to the same period last year.
In Q2 2009, Evraz recorded a 56 percent decrease year on year in its vanadium-added alloys and chemicals output to 1.867 million mt, but increased its vanadium-added slag production by 14.8 percent to 3.230 million mt.
