The Russian steelmaker and iron ore producer Evraz Group (Evraz) has released its production results for the second quarter of 2008.
Accordingly, in the second quarter of 2008 Evraz registered a 195 percent increase in coke production, a 13.8 percent rise in pig iron production, a 12.6 percent increase in crude steel output and a 18.2 percent increase in its rolled steel production, all compared to the second quarter of 2007. The respective figures in metric tons were 651,000, 3.63 million, 4.69 million and 4.52 million. During the period in question, Evraz's production of semis increased by 42.2 percent to 1.285 million metric tons, its construction products output increased by 15 percent to 1.6 million metric tons, its railway products output rose by 1.9 percent to 690,000 metric tons, its flat rolled products output increased by 25.9 percent to 715,000 metric tons, but its tubular products output decreased 14.7 percent to 109,000 mt.
In addition, during the period in question, Evraz's mining division saw a 15 percent reduction in iron ore concentrate production to 867,000 metric tons, a six percent decrease in pellet production to 1.52 million metric tons, but a 3.1 percent increase in sinter production to 1.9 million metric tons. Furthermore, Evraz mined 2.367 million metric tons of coking coal in the second quarter of 2008, registering an increase of 359.8 percent over the corresponding period of last year.
During the April-June 2008 period, Evraz decreased its vanadium in slag production by 7.9 percent but increased its vanadium in alloys and chemicals output by 25.3 percent year on year to 2.81 million mt and 4.24 million mt.
