The Russian steelmaker and iron ore producer Evraz Group (Evraz) has released its production results for the third quarter of 2008.
Accordingly, in the third quarter of 2008 Evraz registered a 27.2 percent decrease in coke production, a 31.1 percent rise in pig iron production, a 32.2 percent increase in crude steel output and a 29.8 percent increase in its rolled steel production, all compared to the third quarter of 2007. The respective figures in metric tons were 438,000, 3.62 million, 4.9 million and 4.5 million. During the period in question, Evraz's production of semis increased by 91 percent to 1.184 million metric tons, its construction products output decreased by 2.4 percent to 1.3 million metric tons, its railway products output rose by 22.3 percent to 688,000 metric tons, its flat rolled products output increased by 49.2 percent to 889,000 metric tons, and its tubular products output rose by 104 percent to 254,000 mt.
In addition, during the period in question, Evraz's mining division saw a 17.7 percent increase in iron ore concentrate production to one million metric tons, a 3.4 percent increase in sinter production to 1.98 million metric tons, but a 5.3 percent decrease in pellet production to 1.36 million metric tons.Furthermore, Evraz mined 2.176 million metric tons of coking coal in the third quarter of 2008, registering an increase of 60.9 percent over the corresponding period of last year.
During the July-September 2008 period, Evraz increased its vanadium in slag production by 3.3 percent and its vanadium in alloys and chemicals output by 5.6 percent year on year to three million mt and 3.7 million mt.
