Brazil’s steel association, IABr, joined several other industrial segments to ask Brazil’s government for the renewal of the country’s automotive fleet.
Under the Vehicular Sustainability Program, whose proposals were delivered to Brazil’s minister of industry, foreign trade and services (MDIC), the coalition asks for the renewal of the Brazilian automotive fleet, as well as incentives to the recycling of auto parts.
“The Vehicular Sustainability Program can be one of the vectors for the retake of Brazil’s growth. Our segment has the potential to boost Brazil’s economy,” said Antonio Megale, president at Anfavea, Brazil’s automotive industry association.
The automotive industry is a top consumer of steel in Brazil.
In addition to IABr, Anfavea and other industrial segments, the Brazilian Union of the Scrap Iron and Steel Companies (Sindinesfa) also joined the coalition.
