In July this year, iron ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland decreased by 9.3 percent compared to June, when the port had achieved a record level for a total cargo of 1,040,062 mt shipped on a single tide. The port's iron ore shipments in July totaled 19.5 million metric tons, up by 11.2 percent year on year.
According to the released information, iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 14.9 million metric tons in July, decreasing by 7.1 percent compared to June and up 18.5 percent year on year. Japan was the second largest export destination for iron ore shipments from Port Hedland in July, with shipments totaling 2.1 million metric tons, falling by 10.7 percent year on year and down 14.6 percent compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to South Korea amounted to 1.5 million metric tons in July, decreasing by 18.5 percent compared to June this year and down 9.1 percent year on year.
Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Atlas Iron and Fortescue Metals Group in the iron ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
