According to the statistics released by the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in the January-July period this year Italy's steel imports totaled 8.691 million metric tons, decreasing by 25.8 percent, while its steel exports totaled 11.468 million metric tons, up 8.9 percent, both compared to the same period of the previous year. Accordingly, Italy recorded a surplus of 2.777 million mt in its external steel trade for the first seven months of the current year.
