Japanese auto output down 14.4 percent in January-March

According to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), in March this year Japanese automobile production (including passenger cars, trucks and buses) totaled 710,389 units, falling by 18.0 percent compared to the same month of 2023. Meanwhile, in the January-March period of 2024, Japanese automobile production decreased by 14.4 percent year on year to 1,905,278 units.

Domestic automobile sales in March in Japan stood at 451,440 vehicles, down by 21.2 percent as compared with the same month of 2023. Meanwhile, in the first three months, domestic automobile sales in Japan moved down by 18.2 percent year on year to 1,131,140 units.

In the meantime, the country’s automobile exports in March amounted to 348,539 units, down by 9.4 percent year on year. In the January-March period, Japanese automobile exports grew by 4.1 percent year on year to 993,838 units.
