Japanese auto output up 20.1 percent in January-May

According to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), in May this year Japanese automobile production (including passenger cars, trucks and buses) totaled 623,531 units, rising by 48.4 percent compared to the same month of 2022. Meanwhile, in the January-May period, Japanese automobile production grew by 20.1 percent year on year to 3,560,505 units.

Domestic automobile sales in May in Japan stood at 326,731 vehicles, rising by 24.9 percent as compared with the same month of 2022. Meanwhile, in the first five months, domestic automobile sales in Japan moved up by 17.0 percent year on year to 2,057,881 units.  

In the meantime, the country’s automobile exports in May amounted to 296,960 units, up by 43.8 percent year on year. In the January-May period Japanese automobile exports grew by 13.4 percent year on year to 1,614,784 units.
