In April this year, Japan’s iron and steel product exports amounted to 2.67 million metric tons, declining by 10.9 percent month on month and by 2.2 percent year on year, according to the customs statistics released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF).
In the January-April period this year, Japanese iron and steel product exports amounted to 10.76 million mt, dropping by 0.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
Regarding Japan’s major iron and steel product export markets, in the first four months this year the country’s iron and steel exports to South Korea totaled 2.07 million metric tons, up 11.0 percent, while exports to China decreased by 38.2 percent to 909,479 metric tons, the export volume to Taiwan amounted to 545,593 metric tons, down by 14.4 percent, exports to Thailand totaled 1.65 million metric tons, advancing by 3.4 percent, while exports to the US totaled 401,601 metric tons, increasing by three percent, all year on year.
