Japan’s steel scrap exports down 7.8 percent in January-June

In June this year, Japanese ferrous scrap exports amounted to 604,250 mt, down by 5.3 percent compared to 637,951 mt in the same month of the previous year, according to customs statistics. In the January-June period this year, the country exported 3.19 million mt of scrap, down by 7.8 percent year on year.

During the given period, Vietnam was the biggest importer of Japanese scrap, importing 1.25 million mt, up by 60.4 percent year on year. Vietnam was followed by South Korea and Taiwan, importing 839,605 mt and 368,649 mt of scrap, down 44.7 percent and 24.9 percent, respectively, year on year.

Meanwhile, Japanese scrap exports to Malaysia amounted to 165,587 mt in the January-June period this year, up from 151,342 mt in the same period of the previous year.
