GMXT, which owns the Ferromex, Ferrosur and Texas Pacifico railways, reported that it mobilized 25,635 full rail cars to transport the steel, 6.6 percent more than in the first three months of last year.

The company used 285 rail cars on a daily average in the quarter, 18 units more than the 267 rail cars used in the first quarter of last year.

According to data from the government Rail Transport Regulatory Agency, a loaded railcar transports 64.3 metric tons (mt). Thus, in the first quarter, GMXT mobilized an average of 18,315 mt per day in national or international trade cargo.

According to GMXT, among its main clients in the steel sector are Ternium, DeAcero, Talleres y Aceros (Tyasa) and Simec, among others.
