The West Virginia Economic Development Authority has approved government funding worth $75 million aimed at supporting the construction of domestic steelmaker Nucor Corporation’s new sheet mill in Mason County. As a result, the company’s total investment in the project has reached $3.5 billion, making it the largest investment in economic development in the history of both the state and the company.
Accordingly, the government funding will be used in several infrastructure projects, including port enhancements and water treatment systems, which will benefit the company’s project.
Nucor’s mill in question, which is scheduled for start-up in the second half of 2026, will produce 3 million mt of sheet mill per year for several industries including construction, automotive, home appliances and heavy equipment.
