Sweden’s SSAB to supply fossil-free steel to Firth Steels

Friday, 21 June 2024 11:12:45 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

Swedish specialty steel producer SSAB has announced that it has signed an agreement with the UK-based steel profile producer Firth Steels for the supply of fossil-free steel. The partnership will promote Firth Steels to reach its goal to further improve sustainability and reduce the carbon footprint of its products.

Steel under the brand SSAB Zero™ will be used as a key component of Firth Steels’ new product series Protex Voyage®, a low embodied carbon building envelope solution. SSAB Zero™ is made of recycled steel and produced with fossil-free electricity and biogas.

“We are happy to add fossil-free steel to our collaboration with Firth Steels, which already uses our bio-based GreenCoat® colour coated steel in their products. By cutting our own carbon emissions, we can help our customers reduce their indirect emissions from the materials they use,” Dave Williams, managing director of SSAB Swedish Steel Ltd., said.
