Swedish crude steel output up sharply in August from July

According to the latest data released by the Swedish Steel Producers' Association (Jernkontoret), in August this year Swedish crude steel production amounted to 298,300 metric tons, decreasing by 3.4 percent year on year but up strongly as compared to 162,000 mt of crude steel output recorded in July this year.

In the first eight months of 2012, Swedish crude steel production totaled 2.95 million mt, with a decrease of 12.5 percent compared to the same period of 2011.

Meanwhile, in the first half of the current year Sweden's exports of finished steel, including blooms and billets, amounted to 1.9 million mt, down 7.4 percent compared to the same period of 2011. Swedish finished steel imports in the first half also totaled 1.9 million mt, down 4.5 percent compared to the same period of 2011.
