Ternium, the largest steel producer in Argentina, announced the start of the construction of its first project of renewable energy, with investment of $160 million.
Located in the city of Olavaria, in the Buenos Aires province, the power complex, announced in February, will have a power capacity of 72 megawatts, allowing the company to replace 65 percent of the electricity it buys from the national grid.
The wind towers of the project will be settled in an area of 1,517 hectares, each one having a 4.5 megawatts capacity.
According to Ternium director Gaston Rodriguez Araya, the project will avoid emissions of 93,000 mt of carbon dioxide per year, as part of the company’s plan to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20 percent until 2030.
The plant is expected to start operations during the second half of 2024.
