In May this year, Turkey’s coking coal imports amounted to 491,530 metric tons, down by 31.8 percent compared to April and up by 2.4 percent year on year, according to the preliminary data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these imports totaled $113.85 million, decreasing by 48.6 percent compared to the previous month and by 25.1 percent year on year.
In the January-May period, Turkey's coking coal imports amounted to 2,461,996 mt, up 28.5 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 15.4 percent to $684.73 million, both year on year.
In the given period, Turkey’s largest coking coal import source was Australia, with 1,175,066 mt. Australia was followed by US with 983,482 mt and Russia with 190,380 mt.
