According to a statement released by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), in October Turkish crude steel output gained momentum again. This largely resulted from the recent increases in raw material prices in the world and the rising trend of steel prices.
Turkish crude steel output in October this year increased by 12 percent month on month and was up by 8.6 percent year on year to 2.97 million mt. In the given month, Turkey’s crude steel output by electric arc furnaces rose by 15.8 percent month on month and by 8.1 percent year on year to 1.99 million mt, while crude steel output by integrated plants increased by 9.6 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the January-October period of this year, Turkey's crude steel production increased by 4.6 percent year on year to 27.41 million metric tons. In the given period, Turkey's crude steel output by electric arc furnaces rose by 5.6 percent to 18.05 million metric tons, while production by integrated plants increased by 2.6 percent to 9.37 million metric tons, both year on year.
In the first ten months of this year, Turkey's billet output decreased by 0.8 percent to 19.12 million metric tons, while its slab output rose by 19.8 percent to 8.23 million metric tons, both on year-on-year basis.
The increase in Turkey’s raw steel output stemmed from the rise in the country’s slab production. The increase in the raw steel production of Turkey is expected to continue during the rest of the current year without losing momentum.
