The Ukrainian steel producer Makeevsk Metallurgical Plant (Makeevsk) has commissioned its new longs rolling mill 390. The total project investment amounted to $160 million.

The new mill with an annual capacity of 720,000 mt, will allow Makeevsk to produce rebars of 8-40 mm diameter. In addition, the mill will produce 10-14 mm diameter rounds, 25, 32, 36, 40 and 45 mm angles, 14-26 mm and 30 mm squares and other special profiles.

"The commissioning of longs rolling mill 390 will allow us to considerably increase Makeevsk's product range in new segments and to better satisfy the needs of our customers, especially in high quality rebar," Makeevsk's general director Enver Tskitishvili stated.

The main units of Makeevsk's new mill were supplied by MWE (Germany), its reheating furnace was delivered by LOI (Germany), while the design and installation supervision were carried out by TRANSPESCH.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, in January-June this year Makeevsk did not produce any crude steel or pig iron, and registered a 46 percent decrease in its finished steel output to 302,000 mt.

In July 2009 Makeevsk plans to increase its finished steel product output by 47 percent compared to June, to about 70,000 mt.
