On Wednesday, January 19, China and the United States announced their agreement on $45 billion in US export deals to China and also agreed to give US companies greater access to China's $88 billion-plus government contracts market. The announcement was made at the start of Chinese President Hu Jintao's four-day state visit to the US.
US officials said the agreements include a contract worth $19 billion to buy 200 Boeing aircraft for delivery to China between 2011 and 2013.
"From machinery to software, from aviation to agriculture, these deals will support some 235,000 American jobs, and that includes many manufacturing jobs," US President Barack Obama said at a joint press conference at the White House with his Chinese counterpart Hu.
According to another deal, US giant General Electric will build on its partnership with the Chinese Ministry of Railways to bring Chinese high-speed rail technology to the United States, while GE will manufacture locomotives for China.
The US officials also stated that other deals were being prepared involving Honeywell, Caterpillar, Westinghouse Electric, and other companies.
