US rebar imports up 10.4 percent in August

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 154,585 mt in August 2023, up 10.4 percent from July and up 47.9 percent from August 2022 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $93.8 million in August 2023, compared to $93.9 million in July and $89.2 million in August 2022.

The US imported the most rebar from Algeria in August, with 73,593 mt, compared to 22,912 mt in July and 41,071 mt in August 2022. Other top sources of imported rebar in August include Egypt, with 42,178 mt; Mexico, with 13,436 mt; Vietnam, with 11,456 mt; and Canada, with 8,502 mt.
