US slab imports up 13.7 percent in October from September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of slabs totaled 426,132 mt in October this year, up 13.7 percent month on month and up 52.7 percent from October last year. By value, the slab imports totaled $246.9 million in October this year, compared to $218.2 million in September and $123.1 million in October 2023.

The US imported the most slab from Brazil in October, with 256,793 mt, compared to 262,478 mt in September and 61,011 mt in October 2023. Other top sources of imported slabs in October included Mexico with 144,730 mt.
