In February this year, world pig iron production amounted to 86.74 million mt, declining by 6.3 percent compared to January and decreasing by 3.5 percent compared to the same month of 2015, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in the January-February period of this year, world pig iron production totaled 179.25 million mt, down 5.5 percent compared to the same period of last year.
In February, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 66.38 million mt, down 4.7 percent, with 50.94 million mt produced by China, declining by 5.3 percent, 6.43 million mt produced by Japan, up 0.8 percent, and 4.39 million mt produced by India, dropping by 5.2 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.56 million mt of pig iron, down 1.1 percent, while the CIS produced 6.08 million mt, up 6.2 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
