China’s rebar output up 1.9% in Jan-Aug, down 6.81% in August from July

In the January-August period this year, China’s rebar production totaled 156.028 million mt, up 1.9 percent year on year, according to China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

In the first eight months this year, wire rod production amounted to 94.896 million mt, up 1.2 percent year on year.      

In the same period, China’s welded pipe output reached 42.244 million mt, up 12.8 percent year on year.      

In August alone, China’s rebar, wire rod and welded pipe outputs amounted to 18.779 million mt, 11.906 million mt and 5.483 million mt, down 1.7 percent, down 2.9 percent and up 7.0 percent year on year, while down 6.81 percent, down 2.65 percent and up 5.22 percent month on month, respectively.      

In August, rebar prices decreased first, while edging up slightly later in the month, with the highest level in August at RMB 3,837/mt seen on August 1, and the lowest level of RMB 3,723/mt recorded on August 15, according to SteelOrbis’ data.
